Remembering Wilma Hendrickson: A Tribute to a Life of Love, Resilience, and Service

In a touching tribute, Shirlane Hendrickson, the general secretary of Trinbago Unified Calypsonians’ Organisation (TUCO), delivered a heartfelt eulogy for her late mother, Wilma Hendrickson, who passed away at the age of 88 on December 12. The memorial service, held on December 19 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, brought together family, friends, and community members to honor Wilma's life characterized by love, resilience, and selfless service. Shirlane's tribute highlighted her mother's role as a motivator, prayer warrior, and unwavering source of support during challenging times.

Shirlane shared memories of her mother's dedication to her family, including her five children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, emphasizing the values of education, guidance, and dignity that Wilma instilled in them. Despite geographical distances, Wilma's love and influence remained strong, touching the lives of many beyond her immediate family. Shirlane fondly recalled her mother's humor, encouragement, and unwavering support for her children's dreams, creating a nurturing and inspiring environment for her family.

Wilma's impact extended to cousins, friends, and extended family members who remembered her as a caring and trusted figure in their lives. Shirlane highlighted her mother's connection to local communities and her commitment to preserving her culture and heritage while building lasting relationships with those around her. The tribute concluded with a message of enduring love and faith, expressing the belief that Wilma is now resting peacefully in God's kingdom, with the hope of reuniting in the future.

The tribute also honored Wilma's partnership with her husband, veteran calypsonian Anthony “All Rounder” Hendrickson, who found strength in God and emphasized the importance of faith, perseverance, and personal integrity. The couple, married for over 52 years, shared not only a family but also a creative partnership, with Wilma co-writing songs and supporting All Rounder's musical career. All Rounder reflected on their life together, highlighting key moments and lessons of humility, kindness, and generosity that guided their personal and professional journey.

Following the service, a burial took place at Western Cemetery in St James, marking the final farewell to Wilma Hendrickson. The tribute captured the essence of a life well-lived, filled with love, dedication, and a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
