Tragic Collision Claims Lives of Six Horses Near Village of Bristol: A Community Mourns

A fatal crash near the Village of Bristol resulted in the death of six horses early Monday morning, as reported by the Kenosha County Sheriff's Office. The incident occurred at the intersection of County Trunk Highway WG (128th Street) and County Highway MB, near the Wisconsin-Illinois state line. A 67-year-old man from Antioch, Ill., driving a 2004 Ford F-350 pickup truck, was involved in the collision while on his way to work in Kenosha. Fortunately, the driver was unharmed despite the significant damage to his vehicle.
Preliminary investigations indicated that the driver was not impaired, and speed was not considered a factor in the crash. Tragically, five of the horses died at the scene, while the owner made the difficult decision to euthanize the sixth horse due to its injuries. The horses had escaped from a fenced enclosure on the property and wandered onto the roadway before the collision occurred.
The owner of the horses used heavy equipment to remove the deceased animals from the road. One of the property's six stables showed fence damage consistent with the horses' escape. Approximately 28 horses are housed on the property, and the incident was described as a significant loss by Kenosha County Sheriff David Zoerner. He emphasized the unexpected hazards that rural roadways can pose, especially in low-visibility conditions, expressing condolences to all those affected.
As of Monday, citations related to animals at large were pending further investigation during daylight hours. The authorities continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the tragic crash and the events leading up to the horses' escape onto the roadway. The community mourns the loss of the six horses and hopes for a thorough understanding of the incident to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
