James Cameron Sets the Record Straight on Matt Damon's 'Avatar' Role Claims

Director James Cameron recently clarified that he did not offer Matt Damon a role in the movie "Avatar," despite Damon's claims that he turned down the lead role. Cameron mentioned in an interview that Damon was never formally offered the part and he couldn't recall if he even sent him the script. Damon had previously stated that he declined the role of Jake Sully in "Avatar," which could have earned him a substantial amount of money from the movie's earnings.

According to Cameron, he did have a conversation with Damon about potentially working together, but Damon expressed his inability to commit to the project due to his prior commitments to the "Bourne" franchise. Despite the discussions, a formal offer or deal with Damon never materialized, and the role ultimately went to Sam Worthington.

"Avatar," released in 2009, became a massive success, grossing $2.9 billion worldwide and becoming the highest-grossing movie of all time. Despite the speculation surrounding Damon's involvement, it seems that the actor was never officially offered a role in the groundbreaking film.
