Rock Legend Ian Gillan Collaborates with Urock on New Album: The Line

Ian Gillan, the iconic singer of Deep Purple, is still in demand even at the age of 80. He recently collaborated with Italian rockers Urock on their second album, The Line, where he lent his vocals to the title track. The collaboration came about through a series of interactions with Urock, who live near Gillan in Portugal. Despite not having any input into the music or lyrics, Gillan enjoyed the experience and found it to be a bit of fun.
Gillan, who turned eighty in August, seems to have a positive outlook on aging. He acknowledges the realities of growing old but maintains a sense of humor about it. He even joked about not being able to pole vault anymore but highlighted that nothing much has changed for him apart from that. Despite facing challenges like losing his vision, Gillan remains adaptable and finds ways to work around them.
Reflecting on the evolution of rock music and aging musicians, Gillan shared his perspective on how songwriting has changed over the years. He emphasized the importance of adapting and finding new topics to write about as one grows older. Gillan expressed that if he loses his energy, he would consider stopping to avoid being an embarrassment. He also hinted at a potential new Deep Purple album in the works and a mega tour planned for next year.
While Gillan has collaborated with his old friend Tony Iommi in the past, he mentioned being too busy to participate in Iommi's solo album project. Despite his busy schedule, Gillan remains open to future collaborations. When asked about Deep Purple's song "Child In Time" being featured in the trailer for the new season of Stranger Things, Gillan expressed surprise as he does not have Netflix or a television. The collaboration with Urock featuring Ian Gillan is now available and offers a glimpse into the upcoming Urock album.
