Sherwood Park Crusaders: Navigating Challenges and Building Momentum in the 2026 Season

The Sherwood Park Crusaders are heading into the 2026 season with a record of 16-10-3 after 29 games, placing them third in the BCHL’s Interior East division and fifth in the Interior Conference. Despite facing numerous challenges, head coach Brennan Menard remains positive about the team's progress in the first half of the season.
Sherwood Park has been tested in terms of depth due to a high number of injuries to key players. Coach Menard commended the team's resilience in winning games with a depleted roster, sometimes playing with minimal forwards and defensemen. He emphasized the players' toughness and commitment during this challenging period.
While the team has had its ups and downs, Coach Menard is pleased with the defensive improvements, particularly in forecheck pressure. However, he acknowledged that the team needs to capitalize on scoring opportunities more effectively, as they have been generating chances but struggling to convert them into goals.
Captain Stevie Grumley highlighted the importance of increasing offensive production as the team moves forward. Following recent losses, he emphasized the need to regain their scoring touch and maintain a fast-paced and aggressive style of play. Grumley also stressed the importance of solidifying defensive habits while finding a consistent offensive rhythm.
Joseph Sinclair has been a standout player for the Crusaders, currently tied for the league lead in scoring in his first year in the BCHL. He attributes his success to the team's collective work ethic and the competitive environment that pushes him to work harder. Sinclair's goal for the season is to win a championship with the team, believing they have the potential to achieve that goal.
Coach Menard praised Sinclair's development, noting his improvement in generating scoring opportunities and enhancing his defensive game. The team's hard work has been recognized by the league, with four Crusaders invited to participate in the upcoming BCHL All-Star weekend: Joseph Sinclair, Stevie Grumley, Jude Bray, and Erik Kald. Grumley expressed his honor at being selected but emphasized that the team's ultimate goal is to continue performing well throughout the season.
