Multi-Agency Operation Leads to Arrest of 13 Individuals and Recovery of $800,000 in Stolen Merchandise in Northern California

A multi-agency operation in Northern California led to the arrest of thirteen individuals and the recovery of over $800,000 in stolen merchandise. The California Highway Patrol's Organized Retail Crime Task Force, in collaboration with other agencies, targeted a retail theft network operating in Placer County and other locations in the state. The suspects were apprehended after a traffic stop in Rocklin, where they admitted to selling stolen goods to another group for resale. Further investigation revealed that the stolen merchandise was being distributed and sold at flea markets in various cities.

Surveillance by the task force confirmed the suspects' claims and established connections between the thieves, the resellers, and the flea market locations. Search warrants were obtained for multiple residences and storage facilities, leading to the arrest of 13 individuals in Oakland, Richmond, San Leandro, and Galt. The authorities seized firearms, vehicles, and a substantial amount of stolen merchandise, including cosmetics, household items, clothing, tools, toys, alcohol, and diapers. The recovered items totaled over 44,000, valued at more than $800,000.

The suspects, predominantly from Oakland, were booked into the Placer County Jail. The investigation underscored the impact of organized retail theft on businesses, workers, and communities in California. Chief Tyler Eccles emphasized the importance of collaboration between law enforcement and retail partners in combating organized theft networks and ensuring accountability for such crimes.
