The mystery surrounding the death of Alden Parker's mother, Eleanor, has finally been solved in "NCIS" Season 23, Episode 9. After discovering a discrepancy in Eleanor's autopsy report, Alden decides to exhume her body, only to find that the DNA sample doesn't match his mother. With the help of Kasie Hines, they track down the state trooper who signed the accident report, Lester Burm, and uncover the truth behind Eleanor's death.
It is revealed that Lester was abusive towards his wife, Judy, who was a friend of Eleanor's. Eleanor steps in to help Judy and her daughter Lily escape from Lester's abuse. Tragically, Judy dies in a car crash caused by Lester, who then covers up the incident by burying Judy in Eleanor's grave. Meanwhile, Eleanor survives but is eventually killed by Lester, who hides her body in a pond near Toledo.
Alden's past comes back to haunt him when Nelly Johnson, who turns out to be Lily living under an assumed name, resurfaces. Alden recognizes Lily immediately, despite previously claiming not to remember her. Lily reveals their shared history and the events leading up to Eleanor's death, ultimately bringing closure to Alden's long-standing grief.
As the truth about Eleanor's death is finally revealed, Alden is able to put Lester behind bars, ensure Eleanor and Judy are buried in their rightful places, and find peace knowing the full story. The weight of the past is lifted off Alden's shoulders, allowing him to move forward with his life.
