Escapees Apprehended: Lyft Ride-Share Abduction in Florida

Three individuals who escaped from a Georgia jail were apprehended in Florida after allegedly hijacking a Lyft ride-share and abducting the driver by placing a rope around her neck. The suspects, Stevenson Charles, Yusuf Minor, and Naod Yohannes, managed to flee DeKalb County Jail near Atlanta before being captured in Florida. The trio reportedly hailed a Lyft car, which the driver believed was requested by a woman. Upon reaching their destination, one of the men restrained the driver with a rope and forced her into the backseat of the vehicle. The driver was threatened with harm if she resisted and was warned not to look or struggle during the ordeal. She estimated being held captive for approximately 10 hours.
The suspects used the driver's credit cards to rent a property in Miramar, Florida, and two of them left in the stolen vehicle while one remained at the rental property. Law enforcement located the stolen vehicle using license plate readers, leading to the arrests of Charles and Yohannes. Minor was apprehended at the rental property, where the victim was found. The driver was evaluated by emergency medical services, although it was not disclosed if she sustained any physical injuries during the incident.
Online inmate records revealed that Minor and Yohannes were serving life sentences for murder, while Charles faced charges of murder and armed robbery. The swift apprehension of the suspects and the recovery of the victim underscore the importance of law enforcement cooperation in ensuring public safety. Such incidents highlight the risks faced by individuals working in the transportation industry and the need for vigilance and safety measures to protect against potential threats.
