Michigan Ice Storm Causes Power Outages and Road Closures Across the State

Michigan is currently experiencing an ice storm, causing power outages and road closures across the state. Winter weather advisories are in effect until 4 p.m. as freezing rain continues to fall, impacting road conditions and electricity supply. Parts of Mid-Michigan could see up to a quarter-inch of freezing rain by Friday afternoon.

According to Outage.us, over 25,000 people are currently without power in Michigan due to the ice storm. The highest number of outages are in Mecosta County, where 6,700 people are affected, followed by Ogemaw County with 4,260 people without power. The Michigan Storm Chasers report that most outages are concentrated along a line from Big Rapids to West Branch.

In addition to power outages, road closures are affecting travel in the region. The Zilwaukee Bridge on I-75 has been shut down due to freezing over, leading to accidents and traffic disruptions. As of 10:20 a.m., the bridge remains closed in both directions, causing slower traffic in the surrounding areas, as reported by MDOT’s MiDrive.
