Tragic Florida Incident: Man Kills Wife, Injures Stepdaughter Over NFL Game Argument

A tragic incident unfolded in Florida as a man shot and killed his wife and injured his stepdaughter before taking his own life following an argument sparked by an NFL game. The man, identified as Jason Kenney, ended his life after fatally shooting his wife, Crystal Kenney, on December 22. The dispute arose when Crystal suggested that Jason turn off the NFL game between the San Francisco 49ers and the Indianapolis Colts, leading to a heated exchange fueled by alcohol. The confrontation escalated, prompting Crystal to instruct her 12-year-old son to call 911. The boy sought help from a neighbor upon hearing gunshots, while responding deputies discovered Crystal deceased and her 13-year-old daughter wounded in the shoulder and face. The injured girl is currently receiving medical treatment in a hospital.
Tragically, the 13-year-old girl pleaded with Jason not to shoot her, but he disregarded her pleas and fired at her. Fortunately, the 12-year-old boy and the couple's 1-year-old daughter, who was asleep in her crib during the incident, were unharmed. Following the shooting, Jason Kenney fled the scene and contacted his sister in upstate New York, confessing to his wrongdoing and indicating that it would be their final conversation. He then drove to his father's residence, where law enforcement officers located him. As authorities attempted to apprehend him from a shed, Jason took his own life.
Upon searching the family's residence, deputies discovered a note penned by Crystal addressed to her husband, imploring him to seek help for his substance abuse issues. The heartbreaking note highlighted concerns about Jason's alcohol consumption and cocaine use, emphasizing the need for intervention and spiritual guidance. The surviving children have been placed in the care of their grandparents as they navigate the aftermath of the devastating incident. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd expressed profound sorrow over the tragedy, emphasizing the emotional toll it has taken on the family and law enforcement personnel involved in the case. The holiday season was marred by the loss of life and shattered family dynamics, underscoring the profound impact of domestic violence and substance abuse on individuals and communities.
