Brooklyn Taylor's Financial Journey: How One Item Per Month Led to Thousands in Savings

As the New Year approaches, many people are contemplating their resolutions, but one Australian woman, Brooklyn Taylor, has already put hers into action and plans to continue in 2026. Taylor, a 27-year-old influencer, recognized her impulse buying habits and decided to make more conscious choices by limiting herself to purchasing only one item per month in 2025. To achieve this, she created a wishlist funded by a savings account called her “fun money” and transferred a set amount each week to give herself time to consider her purchases.

Taylor excluded essential services like haircuts from her spending calculations and focused on categories where she tended to overconsume, such as clothes, homewares, makeup, and skincare. By curbing her impulse buying, she found herself using the items she already owned, like burning through her candle collection and refraining from buying new makeup products. Taylor also shifted her mindset to prioritize quality over quantity, opting to save up for higher-quality items that filled a gap in her wardrobe.

Through her disciplined approach, Taylor saved “thousands” of dollars by limiting her spending to essentials like groceries and rent. She documented her monthly purchases, which mainly consisted of dresses, athletic sets, an LED face light, and a Taylor Swift vinyl. By investing 66% of her income into high-yield savings accounts and emergency funds, Taylor successfully decreased her spending and increased her saving and investing efforts in 2025.

Looking forward to 2026, Taylor plans to continue her one-item-per-month buying challenge, along with new goals like walking daily and investing $700 weekly. By prioritizing her future self and seeing her investments grow, Taylor is proud of the financial progress she has made and is motivated to maintain her disciplined approach in the coming year.
