LAFC Acquires Canadian Winger Jacob Shaffelburg in Trade with Nashville SC

LAFC has completed a trade with Nashville SC, acquiring winger Jacob Shaffelburg in exchange for $1 million in General Allocation Money (GAM), split between 2026 and 2027. Nashville will also retain a sell-on percentage if Shaffelburg is transferred in the future. Shaffelburg, a Canadian international, brings speed and intensity to LAFC's attacking lineup. He has a strong track record in MLS and is aiming for a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup with Canada.
Shaffelburg, who started his professional career as a Toronto FC homegrown player, has played in 168 matches across all competitions for Nashville and Toronto, contributing 18 goals and 28 assists. With six goals in 31 caps for Canada, he is a key player in their World Cup aspirations. LAFC's co-president and general manager, John Thorrington, praised Shaffelburg's character and team-first mentality, highlighting his professionalism and humility on and off the field.
Joining an attacking lineup that includes Son Heung-Min and Denis Bouanga, Shaffelburg adds depth and versatility to LAFC's roster. Nashville, on the other hand, will rely on Hany Mukhtar and Sam Surridge as their main attacking options. LAFC now boasts two Canadian internationals, with midfielder Mathieu Choinière also on their roster after a permanent acquisition earlier in the offseason from Grasshopper in the Swiss Super League.
The addition of Shaffelburg strengthens LAFC's attacking options and provides valuable experience and skill to their lineup. With his proven track record in MLS and international play, Shaffelburg is set to make a significant impact for LAFC in the upcoming season.
