A recall has been issued for grass-fed ground beef due to concerns of E. coli contamination. The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced the recall of over 2,800 pounds of raw 90/10 ground beef processed by Mountain West Food Group, LLC in Idaho. The recalled "Forward Farms Grass-Fed Ground Beef" was produced on Dec. 16 and distributed to California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Pennsylvania, and Washington for further distribution to retail establishments. The presence of E. coli 026 was detected during routine testing, prompting the recall.

While there have been no confirmed reports of illness related to the recalled beef, the FSIS warns that exposure to shiga toxin-producing strains of E. coli can lead to symptoms such as stomach cramps, diarrhea, vomiting, bloody stools or urine, fever, and dehydration. In severe cases, E. coli infection can result in hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a serious condition that can lead to kidney failure and potentially death. Certain populations, including young children, the elderly, and individuals with weakened immune systems, are at higher risk of experiencing severe complications from E. coli infection.

The recalled beef can be identified by the label "Forward Farms" and "Grass-Fed Ground Beef," with a use-by or freeze-by date of Jan. 13, 2026, and an establishment number of 2083 ("Est. 2018") printed on the packaging.
