The Shocking Attack on George Harrison: A Look Back at the Tragic Incident
Music fans were shocked when George Harrison, a former member of the Beatles, was attacked in his home on December 30, 1999. Unlike John Lennon, who was fatally shot in 1980, Harrison survived the knife attack. The attacker, Michael Abram, had a history of mental health issues and had been in a psychiatric ward before the incident. Abram believed he was on a mission from God to kill Harrison, whom he saw as a threat. The attack left Harrison with 40 stab wounds and a punctured lung, while his wife Olivia also suffered injuries. Abram was found not guilty by reason of insanity and was ordered to be held indefinitely in a mental hospital. Harrison later died of lung cancer in 2001, with his son Dhani attributing the attack to the decline in his health. Abram was released from a mental health facility in 2002 and was reported to be working as a volunteer in 2005.
