Charlotte FC Signs US International Midfielder Luca de la Torre for 2026 Season

Charlotte FC has made a significant signing by acquiring midfielder Luca de la Torre from LaLiga's Celta de Vigo. The 27-year-old US international has signed a contract with Charlotte FC through June 2029, with an option for the 2029-30 MLS season. In exchange for de la Torre's rights, Charlotte sent $50,000 in 2026 General Allocation Money (GAM) to San Diego FC, where he was on loan last year from Celta.

General manager Zoran Krneta expressed excitement about adding de la Torre to the team, highlighting his technical ability, experience in a top league, and familiarity with Major League Soccer. De la Torre, a versatile central midfielder, contributed 5 goals and 2 assists in 37 appearances for San Diego during the 2025 season, helping the team achieve notable milestones in their inaugural MLS campaign.

Prior to joining MLS, de la Torre had a successful career in Europe, playing for clubs like Celta, Fulham FC, and Heracles Almelo. He has also represented the USMNT, earning 32 caps and scoring one goal. Charlotte FC aims to continue attracting top USMNT players, with de la Torre eager to make an impact in the Queen City.

Charlotte FC's 2026 season kicks off on Feb. 21 against St. Louis CITY SC, with the team looking to build on their recent playoff appearances under head coach Dean Smith. The addition of de la Torre is expected to strengthen the midfield and contribute to the team's success in the upcoming season.
