The Florida Gators defense will see another player transfer from the program as defensive back Aaron Gates is set to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal. Gates, who has two years of eligibility remaining, has shown promise as a playmaker on the Gators defense but has been limited by injuries during his time at Florida. Despite his limited appearances, Gates has made significant contributions, including tackles, interceptions, pass deflections, and fumble recoveries.
In his breakout campaign in 2024, Gates showcased his skills as a versatile player, excelling at the nickel-corner position. However, injuries, including an ACL tear and a shoulder injury, have hampered his playing time in subsequent seasons. Former head coach Billy Napier praised Gates for his football acumen and versatility, highlighting his ability to play multiple positions on the field.
Gates joins a list of outgoing transfers from the Gators, including several defensive backs like Sharif Denson, Jamroc Grimsley, Teddy Foster, Jordan Castell, and Josiah Davis.
