President Trump's Stance on Venezuela: No New Elections in 30 Days, Focus on Rebuilding and Cooperation

President Donald Trump stated in an interview with NBC News that Venezuela will not hold new elections within the next 30 days. Trump emphasized the need to focus on fixing the country before considering elections, citing the current state of the nation. He also mentioned the possibility of the U.S. supporting oil companies in rebuilding Venezuela's energy infrastructure, a project that could take less than 18 months, requiring a significant financial investment.

Trump clarified that the U.S. is not in a war with Venezuela but rather with individuals involved in drug trafficking and other criminal activities. He outlined a group of U.S. officials, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who will oversee America's involvement in Venezuela, with Trump asserting his ultimate authority in the decision-making process.

The discussion about Venezuela followed the arrest of Nicolás Maduro in New York on charges related to narco-terrorism and drug trafficking. Despite Maduro's denial of the charges, Vice President Delcy Rodríguez was sworn in as his successor. Trump mentioned that Rodríguez has been cooperating with U.S. officials, hinting at potential sanctions decisions in the near future.

Trump addressed the possibility of a military incursion into Venezuela if cooperation falters but expressed optimism that such action may not be necessary. He also dismissed reports linking his decision-making to the Nobel Peace Prize won by Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, emphasizing that the award did not influence his stance.

Despite concerns from some political allies about long-term involvement in Venezuela, Trump expressed confidence in his support base, particularly the "MAGA" movement. He affirmed that his actions align with the principles of "America First" and reiterated his commitment to fulfilling his campaign promises.
