Snow Halts Flights at Liverpool John Lennon Airport: Latest Updates and Travel Advisories

Flights at Liverpool John Lennon Airport (JLA) have been halted this morning due to snowy and icy conditions on the runway. The snow that fell in parts of Merseyside yesterday has now turned into ice, prompting maintenance crews to clear the runway. The airport's official account announced the closure of the runway at 8 am to address the wintry weather conditions and the ongoing snow and ice clearing efforts.

Passengers are advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates on flight delays and cancellations. Reports from traffic monitoring services indicate significant delays of over two hours for departing flights from the airport. In addition to flight disruptions, the M62 eastbound is partially blocked at junction 57 due to an obstruction, causing further traffic delays in the area.

Merseyrail and national rail services are also experiencing delays and cancellations this morning. While wintry showers are forecasted throughout the day, the Met Office's yellow weather warning for snow and ice is expected to end by lunchtime. Temperatures are not expected to rise above 0°C until 11 am, with a maximum daytime temperature of 2°C.

The day is expected to be cold and frosty with occasional snow flurries in Pennine regions. Despite the sunny weather, temperatures will struggle to reach above freezing, especially in higher elevations.
