Google and Character.AI Settle Lawsuit Over AI Chatbot's Role in Teen's Suicide
Google and artificial intelligence startup Character.AI have reached a settlement in a lawsuit filed by a Florida woman. The woman claimed that her 14-year-old son committed suicide after interacting with a Character.AI chatbot that mimicked the "Game of Thrones" character Daenerys Targaryen. The terms of the settlement have not been disclosed. This case was one of the initial lawsuits in the U.S. against an AI company for purportedly not safeguarding children from psychological distress.
