Ronnie Wood's Musical Journey: From Jeff Beck to Faces - A Look Back and Ahead
Ronnie Wood shared his experiences of performing with Jeff Beck in a recent video on his YouTube channel. The Rolling Stones guitarist reminisced about how Beck encouraged him to play bass and how he received praise from Jimi Hendrix. Wood discussed his journey to joining the Rolling Stones and how Beck's suggestion led him to take up the bass. Initially collaborating with Beck in 1967 after the musician left the Yardbirds to form the Jeff Beck Group, Wood recalled Beck asking him to consider playing bass after a gig at the 100 Club in London. Hendrix would often join them for jam sessions in the U.S. and even praised Wood's bass playing, which Wood considered a great honor. Wood also shared a fun memory of sharing a flat with Hendrix in Holland Park for a couple of weeks during their early gigging days.
In April 2025, it was announced that the rock group Faces, a supergroup featuring members of Small Faces and the Jeff Beck Group, including Wood and Rod Stewart, would be releasing their first album in 50 years. Drummer Kenney Jones revealed in an interview with The Telegraph that the album, consisting of around 11 tracks, was recorded at RAK Studios in London. Jones mentioned that musician Jools Holland would be featured on one of the tracks. He expressed that while not all recorded songs may make it to the album, most of them were of good quality and hinted at the exciting music to come.
The collaboration between Ronnie Wood and Jeff Beck not only shaped Wood's musical journey but also led to memorable encounters with legendary musicians like Jimi Hendrix.
