Former James Madison Players Continue to Transfer to UCLA: Sweazie and DeNgohe Join the Bruins

The trend of former James Madison players transferring to UCLA continues as new Bruins coach Bob Chesney adds offensive lineman Carter Sweazie and defensive lineman Darold DeNgohe to the team. Sweazie, a left guard, started every game for Chesney in 2025 and earned third-team All-Sun Belt honors. DeNgohe played for Chesney at JMU in 2024 and recorded impressive stats before transferring to Rutgers in 2025. With these additions, UCLA now has 10 former JMU players in its transfer class, bringing the total to 21 players.

Sweazie will be playing under his former position coach, Chris Smith, who is now the Bruins' offensive line coach and run-game coordinator. Alongside Sweazie, other former JMU offensive linemen Riley Robell and JD Rayner have also committed to UCLA, strengthening the team's offensive line. On the other hand, UCLA's leading receiver from last season, Kwazi Gilmer, has decided to transfer to Nebraska, becoming the second Bruin to join the Huskers in two days.

Despite the departure of Gilmer, UCLA is making significant moves in the transfer market, with a total of 21 players committing to the team. The addition of Sweazie, DeNgohe, and other former JMU players showcases the strong connection between Chesney and his former players. With the coaching staff undergoing changes, including the arrival of Colin Lockett as the new wide receivers coach, the Bruins are gearing up for the 2026 season with a revamped roster and renewed energy.
