Hank Azaria and the EZ Street Band: A Tribute to Springsteen with a Purpose
Hank Azaria, known for his voice work on "The Simpsons," has taken on a new musical project as the frontman of a Bruce Springsteen cover band. Azaria shares that singing like Springsteen required vocal training to sound good without straining his voice. The band, Hank Azaria and the EZ Street Band, is a tribute to Springsteen, with Azaria's impersonation of the iconic singer starting at his 60th birthday party in 2024. The band even had a special guest appearance by Max Weinberg, the E Street Band drummer, at one of their performances.
Azaria's band has caught the attention of Springsteen and his wife, Patti Scialfa, although they were not involved in the making of a film that Azaria found "amazing." Despite the absence of E Street Band members at their shows, Azaria and the EZ Street Band have played at the legendary Stone Pony in Asbury Park, New Jersey, a significant milestone for the actor and Springsteen fan. The experience of performing Springsteen's songs at the iconic venue was a surreal and meaningful moment for Azaria.
The EZ Street Band has upcoming performances scheduled, including a headline show at New York City's Sony Hall in January. Azaria donates the band's ticket sales proceeds to the Four through Nine Foundation, a charity he founded to support causes related to recovery, education, and social justice. Azaria emphasizes the importance of supporting social justice causes, especially in challenging times, and believes that financial contributions can make a difference in promoting positive change.
