Calvin Russell: Dual-Sport Star Joins Syracuse Football and Basketball Teams

Syracuse football made a significant addition to its 2026 recruiting class by signing five-star wide receiver Calvin Russell. Russell, who also excelled on the basketball court for Miami (FL) Northwestern, has now been officially added to the Syracuse basketball roster as a spring enrollee. He is ranked as the No. 2 wide receiver and the No. 23 overall player in the 2026 class, making him the highest-ranked player Syracuse has had in 25 years.
On the basketball front, Russell showcased his skills by averaging 15.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game, helping his team advance to the semifinals of the Florida High School 4A state playoffs in the 2024-25 season. His mother, Chanivia Broussard, who was a standout player at Miami, has a strong basketball background and was inducted into the Miami Sports Hall of Fame in 208 after scoring 1,482 points in her career.
With Russell's dual talents in football and basketball, Syracuse is looking forward to seeing him make an impact on both the gridiron and the hardwood. His addition brings excitement and anticipation for what he can achieve at the collegiate level in both sports.
