KPop Demon Hunters Screenwriters Tapped for Tim Burton's Modern Take on Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman

KPop Demon Hunters screenwriters Danya Jimenez and Hannah McMechan have been chosen to work on a new project. They will be writing Tim Burton's modern take on the 1958 science fiction horror movie Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman for Warner Bros. Pictures. Tim Burton will direct and produce the film, with Andrew Mittman and Tommy Harper also on board. Gillian Flynn had previously worked on a draft of the script. The updated version of the film follows a wealthy heiress who transforms into a giant after encountering aliens and seeks revenge on her cheating husband.

The production company LuckyChap, led by Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara, will be producing and developing the project. Morgan Begg will oversee the project, while Kai Dolbashian will serve as an executive producer. Jimenez and McMechan, who gained recognition for their work on KPop Demon Hunters, met at Loyola Marymount University and collaborated on the film after a connection at the Sundance Feature Lab. They expressed their surprise and gratitude for the success of their previous project and the unexpected journey it took from scriptwriting to production.

KPop Demon Hunters, released last summer, has become Netflix's most-watched film to date. The film's soundtrack has achieved significant success, breaking Billboard records and receiving five Grammy nominations, including Song of the Year. The song "Golden" has been shortlisted for the 98th Academy Awards in the Original Song category. Additionally, the film has garnered three Golden Globe nominations and is reportedly set to have a sequel released in 2029. The success of KPop Demon Hunters has opened up new opportunities for Jimenez and McMechan, leading them to work on Tim Burton's upcoming project.
