Reclaiming Quiet Riot IV: Paul Shortino's Journey with the Band and Plans for Re-Release

Paul Shortino, former lead vocalist of bands like King Kobra and Rough Cutt, recently discussed his time with Quiet Riot in an interview with Metal-Rules. During his tenure with Quiet Riot from 1987 to 1989, the band released the album QR, also known as Quiet Riot IV. The lineup for this album included Shortino on vocals, Carlos Cavazo on guitar, Frankie Banali on drums, and Sean McNabb on bass.
Shortino revealed that Quiet Riot initially recorded three songs, including "God Gave Rock and Roll To You," "Stay With Me Tonight," and "Big Changes," before facing a year of legal battles. Eventually, they were able to record additional songs for the QR album. Most of the album was written during pre-production sessions at Jimmy Waldo's house, with Shortino sharing songwriting credits with the band members. Despite the initial recordings, only "Stay With Me Tonight" made it to the final album.
Looking to reclaim ownership of the album, Shortino and Cavazo plan to re-release Quiet Riot IV with two bonus tracks, "Big Changes" and "Your Time Is Gonna Come." They also aim to replace Frankie Banali's drum tracks with Carmine Appice's recordings. With the majority of the band members on board, they are determined to take back control of their music, as they have done with Rough Cutt's albums.
