Tribute to Toby Keith: Renaming Bridges and Roadway in Oklahoma

A new bill has been introduced in Oklahoma to rename two bridges and a roadway in honor of the late country music legend, Toby Keith. The proposed legislation, Senate Bill 1475, aims to name the bridge over Interstate 35 and Indian Hills Road in Norman, Oklahoma as the "Toby Keith Memorial Bridge." Additionally, if a new bridge or interchange is constructed at the same location in the future, it would be called the Toby Keith Memorial Interchange. The bill also includes plans to name a potential spur from Indian Hills Road to I-35 connecting to Interstate 44 as the "Toby Keith Parkway."

Furthermore, there is a possibility of building a bridge over the Canadian River from the potential spur, which could be named the "Should’ve Been a Cowboy Bridge" after Keith's first major hit. Keith, who hails from Clinton, Oklahoma, has strong ties to the area where the bridge renaming is proposed. The bill also outlines a provision for Oklahomans to contribute to the creation of artwork on any new bridge or interchange on the potential Toby Keith Parkway, with the option for Keith's family to commission artwork to honor his legacy.

Looking back at some of Keith's iconic songs, the proposed renaming of the bridges and roadway would pay tribute to his musical legacy and Oklahoma roots. The bill seeks to commemorate Keith's contributions to country music and his connection to the state through these naming initiatives.
