Changes in 4K Distribution: Warner Bros. and Paramount Shift to Alliance Entertainment for Physical Media Releases

Warner Bros. recently announced that several films from their library would receive 4K ultra-high definition Blu-ray upgrades, including titles like Lethal Weapon, Amadeus, Constantine, and Seven. A collection of Sean Connery's James Bond films was also set to be released in a new set. However, it seems that this Connery set might be the last of the James Bond films in 4K from Warner Bros.
A new report reveals that Warner Bros. will no longer release MGM titles, including James Bond movies, in 4K. Amazon MGM Studios has signed an exclusive packaged media distribution deal with Alliance Entertainment, covering new releases and catalog titles on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray Disc, including TV titles and feature films. This means that upcoming Bond films in 4K will now be distributed under the Alliance Entertainment banner.
In addition to Amazon MGM, Paramount has also partnered with Alliance for distribution. With Warner Bros. and Paramount potentially moving away from physical media, third-party distributors like Alliance could release titles from both studios' libraries at a faster pace. This shift could benefit movie fans, as more titles, including Spielberg films like Minority Report and Catch Me If You Can, as well as classics like Dances with Wolves and Stargate, may receive physical media upgrades under Alliance's distribution.
