A car was swept out to sea and a popular campground inundated at Victoria’s Wye River on Thursday. Social media footage captured a black SUV being swept into the ocean and the Big4 holiday park submerged in rapid floodwaters. The weather bureau issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the South West district around the Otways, labeling the storm as very dangerous. The State Emergency Service issued a "watch and act" message, cautioning that intense rainfall could lead to life-threatening flash flooding. Mount Cowley recorded 115 millimetres of rain in just one hour. Residents were advised to park cars undercover and away from trees and to check on family members and neighbors. In case of a life-threatening emergency, individuals should call Triple Zero (000). More updates are expected.
