Sophie Turner Stars as Lara Croft in Prime Video's 'Tomb Raider' Live-Action Series: Everything You Need to Know
Prime Video has released a sneak peek of the upcoming live-action series "Tomb Raider," featuring Sophie Turner as the iconic video game character Lara Croft. The series, currently in production, is based on the popular video game franchise and was approved by Prime Video in May 2024. Turner's casting was announced in November of the same year. She joins a list of actresses who have previously portrayed Croft, including Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander. The cast also includes Martin Bobb-Semple, Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie, and August Wittgenstein.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge is the creator, writer, and executive producer of the series, with Chad Hodge serving as an executive producer and co-showrunner alongside Waller-Bridge. Jonathan van Tulleken will direct and executive produce the show. The first "Tomb Raider" video game was released in 1996, establishing Lara Croft as a prominent female action hero. The most recent game, "Shadow of the Tomb Raider," was released in 2018, with new games "Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis" and "Tomb Raider: Catalyst" scheduled for 2026 and 2027, respectively.
The series is executive produced by Crystal Dynamics, Wells Street Productions, Story Kitchen, Michael Scheel, Legendary Television, and Amazon MGM Studios. It is a collaboration between Crystal Dynamics and Amazon MGM Studios, developed under Story Kitchen's first-look deal to create more "Tomb Raider" content for series and films. Waller-Bridge is currently signed under an overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios. The "Tomb Raider" series promises to bring the beloved video game character to life in an exciting new way for fans to enjoy.
