Boston Bruins Make Moves Ahead of 2026 NHL Entry Draft: Trade Viel to Ducks, Recall Sweezey

The Boston Bruins have made some moves ahead of the 2026 NHL Entry Draft. General Manager Don Sweeney announced that the team has traded forward Jeffrey Viel to the Anaheim Ducks in exchange for a fourth-round draft pick. The Bruins now have nine selections in the upcoming draft, including two 1st-round picks, one 2nd-round pick, and one 3rd-round pick.

In addition to the trade, the Bruins have recalled defenseman Billy Sweezey from the Providence Bruins on an emergency basis. Sweezey, who has played 34 games with Providence this season, will provide depth to the team's defensive lineup. The 29-year-old defenseman has also seen NHL action with the Columbus Blue Jackets, tallying one assist in nine games.

Viel, a 28-year-old forward, has played in 64 NHL games with both the Bruins and the San Jose Sharks. He has recorded three goals and two assists in his career. Sweezey, on the other hand, has played over 300 AHL games and has accumulated 51 points in his career.

The 2026 NHL Entry Draft is set to take place on June 26-27 at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo, New York. With their nine draft picks, the Bruins will have the opportunity to add new talent to their roster and continue to build for the future.
