Guillermo del Toro to Receive Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film at London Critics’ Circle Film Awards

Guillermo del Toro is set to receive the prestigious Dilys Powell Award for Excellence in Film at the upcoming 46th London Critics’ Circle Film Awards. The award, named after British film critic Dilys Powell, recognizes del Toro's significant contributions to global cinema. The ceremony will take place on Feb. 1, where del Toro will be honored for his imaginative storytelling and impactful films.
Known for his captivating and emotionally-driven fantastical stories, del Toro has garnered numerous accolades throughout his career. From his debut film Cronos in 1993 to his recent critically-acclaimed adaptation of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein, del Toro has consistently impressed audiences with his unique vision and world-building skills. His work has earned him three Oscars, three BAFTAs, two Golden Globes, and the prestigious Venice Film Festival’s Golden Lion.
Del Toro's latest film, a reimagining of Frankenstein released in 2025, received high praise and featured a stellar cast including Oscar Isaac, Jacob Elordi, and Mia Goth. In addition to the Dilys Powell Award, del Toro will also be honored with a BFI Fellowship in May for his extraordinary contributions to the film industry.
Chair of the London Film Critics’ Circle, Jane Crowther, commended del Toro for his visionary storytelling and inventive creations that have provided audiences with escape and wonderment.
