No Good Men": Afghan Director Shahrbanoo Sadat's Latest Film to Open Berlin Film Festival 2026

The Berlin Film Festival 2026 is set to open with the premiere of "No Good Men," the latest film by Afghan director Shahrbanoo Sadat, at the Berlinale Palast on Feb. 12. Festival director Tricia Tuttle praised Sadat's work, highlighting the film's focus on Afghan women's lives and its blend of romance and humor with political themes. "No Good Men" is based on real events and is the third installment in Sadat's series of films inspired by the writings of Anwar Hashimi.
Following her previous works "Wolf and Sheep" and "Parwareshgah," Sadat's latest film continues her exploration of personal and political themes. The movie stars Sadat and Hashimi, with the story revolving around Naru, the only female camerawoman at Kabul TV, who challenges her belief that there are no good men in Afghanistan when she meets reporter Qodrat just before the Taliban's return.
Sadat, drawing from her own experiences in Afghanistan, aims to offer hope to young women and set an example for young men through the film. "No Good Men" is a collaborative effort between production companies from Germany, France, Norway, Denmark, and Afghanistan, reflecting an international co-production approach. Adomeit Film, La Fabrica Nocturna Cinéma, Motlys, Amerikafilm, and Wolf Pictures are the production companies behind the project.
In conclusion, "No Good Men" promises to be a compelling addition to the Berlin Film Festival lineup, showcasing Sadat's unique storytelling style and her commitment to shedding light on important social issues. The film's blend of personal narrative and political commentary is sure to resonate with audiences and further establish Sadat as a prominent voice in world cinema.
