Tragic Incident in Pennsylvania: 11-Year-Old Boy Faces Charges for Fatally Shooting Father Over Nintendo Switch

An incident in Pennsylvania has shocked the community as an 11-year-old boy is facing criminal charges for fatally shooting his father after his Nintendo Switch was confiscated. The tragic event took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning in Duncannon Borough. The boy's father, 42-year-old Douglas Dietz, was found dead in the bedroom he shared with his wife, connected to his son's room by a closet.
The family had celebrated the boy's birthday the night before the incident, singing him "Happy Birthday" before going to bed. Douglas' wife, Jillian Dietz, woke up to a loud noise and a fiery smell, only to discover her husband bleeding heavily. The boy reportedly shouted, "Daddy's dead," and later confessed to his mother, "I killed Daddy," according to authorities.
The boy admitted to investigators that he became angry when his father told him to go to bed, leading him to search for his Nintendo Switch, which had been taken away. He found a key to his father's safe, retrieved a gun, loaded it, and shot his father while he was in bed. The boy stated that he had not thought about the consequences of his actions in the heat of the moment.
The 11-year-old has been charged with criminal homicide and is currently held at the Perry County Prison. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible gun ownership and the potential consequences of impulsive actions.
