Uber Driver's Terrifying Ordeal: Arrest of Kidnapping and Armed Robbery Suspects
A routine Uber pickup in Boynton Beach turned into a terrifying ordeal for a driver on Thursday night, resulting in the arrest of two suspects the following day. Isaiah Thurston, 20, and Jakeria Riley, 24, are accused of kidnapping and armed robbery after forcing the victim to cancel the ride and driving around for hours in search of ATMs. Thurston held the victim's phone and expressed his desire to avoid going back to jail while attempting to withdraw cash using stolen credit cards.
The driver was coerced to drive through West Palm Beach and Riviera Beach as the suspects tried to access ATMs. The victim reported the incident to the police the next morning after the suspects fled on foot in Boynton Beach. A massive manhunt ensued, involving various law enforcement units, leading to the eventual arrest of Thurston and Riley near the Courtyard Marriott. Thurston managed to evade officers initially but was apprehended later.
Both suspects are now in custody at the Palm Beach County Jail. Riley faces additional charges for possession of cocaine and stolen credit cards, while Thurston's charges include violation of probation and resisting an officer. The authorities were able to locate and apprehend the suspects thanks to tips and diligent investigative work.
