Kenny Chesney Opens Up About Public Speaking Anxiety and Growth in the Spotlight

Kenny Chesney, a renowned country music artist, recently opened up about his discomfort in social situations that require him to speak in front of a crowd. In a conversation with Rob Lowe on the Literally! With Rob Lowe podcast, Chesney shared his anxiety about speaking in front of a small group, especially when asked to say a prayer before a meal. Despite being used to performing for large audiences, Chesney admitted that speaking engagements still make him nervous.
The discussion arose while Chesney and Lowe talked about Chesney's memoir, Heart Life Music, and his experience with public speaking during the book tour. Chesney confessed that speaking to a smaller audience of 600 people was a different challenge compared to singing to a stadium full of fans. However, he acknowledged that he is gradually improving in this aspect.
Chesney also mentioned his experience performing at The Sphere, a unique venue in Las Vegas where he has a residency. The Sphere's advanced production capabilities posed a new challenge for Chesney, who initially struggled to adapt to the immersive production environment. During the first night of his residency, Chesney even forgot the lyrics to some of his songs, leading to a candid moment with the audience.
Despite the initial challenges, Chesney found the experience at The Sphere to be rewarding and plans to return for another series of shows in 2026. As he continues to navigate unfamiliar territory in his career, Chesney remains committed to honing his public speaking skills and embracing new opportunities for growth and performance.
