Bruce Springsteen's Emotional Tribute at Light Of Day Foundation Benefit
Bruce Springsteen surprised attendees at the annual Light Of Day Foundation benefit in New Jersey by joining Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers on stage. The event, held at the Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre, featured performances by various artists including Gary U.S. Bonds, Danny Clinch, Willie Nile, and John Rzeznik of the Goo Goo Dolls. Springsteen used the opportunity to speak out against the presence of ICE agents in Minneapolis and dedicated the song "The Promised Land" to Renee Good, a U.S. citizen who was tragically killed by an ICE agent.
During his set with Joe Grushecky & The Houserockers, Springsteen addressed the audience, echoing the sentiments expressed by Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey regarding ICE's presence in the city. He emphasized the need for ICE to leave Minneapolis, following the tragic death of Renee Good. Good, a mother of three, was fatally shot by an ICE agent on January 7. Springsteen's emotional performance of "The Promised Land" was a tribute to Good and her memory as an American citizen.
Springsteen's appearance at the benefit marked another instance of his outspokenness against the policies of the Trump administration. In 2025, he released a live EP titled Land Of Hope & Dreams, which featured a recording of his impassioned statement about the current political climate. The Boss continues to use his platform to address social and political issues, making a powerful statement through his music and activism.
