Shining Light: Harper Steele Joins Powerful Transmasculine Documentary 'What Will I Become?

Harper Steele, an Emmy-winning comedy writer and producer, has joined the team of the upcoming documentary "What Will I Become?" as an executive producer. The film, a collaboration between ITVS, Deep Dive Films, and Storylens Pictures, focuses on the experiences of the transmasculine community through the personal stories of directors Lexie Bean and Logan Rozos. The documentary explores the lives of two young trans men, Blake Brockington and Kyler Prescott, who tragically died by suicide, shedding light on their joys, challenges, and the impact within their communities.
The plot of the film delves into the vulnerability of the transmasculine community and highlights the importance of suicide prevention practices and resources for trans boys and the LGBTQIA2S+ community. Harper Steele, known for her work on Saturday Night Live and the Netflix documentary "Will & Harper," expressed her support for the project, emphasizing the need to showcase both the harm of transphobia and the resilience and joy within the community.
Directors Bean and Rozos shared that they created the film for individuals who have felt like a burden and lacked role models, aiming to challenge the narrative that the world is better off without them. Producer Drew Dickler of Deep Dive Films emphasized the importance of community and accountability in the face of erasure and abandonment of trans youth by societal systems.
"What Will I Become?" is set to premiere at the Berlinale, with additional details about the collaborators and original music composed by Kyler Prescott to be announced soon. The documentary aims to provide a platform for the voices of the transmasculine community and spark conversations about inclusivity and support for marginalized groups. Stay tuned for more updates on this impactful project.
