The Masque of the Red Death: Léa Seydoux Stars in A24's Darkly Comedic Adaptation of Poe's Classic Tale

French actress Léa Seydoux, known for her award-winning performances, is set to star in The Masque of the Red Death, a new film from A24 and Picturestart. The movie is a revisionist and darkly comedic take on Edgar Allen Poe's short story of the same name. The story follows Prince Prospero and a group of nobles who retreat into a fortified abbey during a deadly plague, hosting an elaborate masked ball to distract themselves. However, an unsettling presence disrupts the celebration, forcing the guests to confront the reality they tried to ignore.
The film is helmed by writer-director Charlie Polinger, known for his Cannes-premiered debut, The Plague. Julia Hammer and Erik Feig will produce for Picturestart, with James Presson and Lucy McKendrick also on board as producers. A24 will handle worldwide distribution of the movie. Seydoux, who has worked with acclaimed directors like Wes Anderson and Yorgos Lanthimos, recently appeared in Dune: Part Two and Bond films like Spectre and No Time to Die. She won the Palme d’Or for Blue Is the Warmest Colour and has several upcoming projects, including The Unknown and Gentle Monster.
