God of War TV Series: Ryan Hurst Cast as Kratos and Christopher Judge Approves
The news broke recently that Ryan Hurst, known for his role in Sons of Anarchy, will be portraying Kratos in the upcoming God of War TV series on Prime Video. Christopher Judge, the voice actor for Kratos in the video games, expressed his approval of Hurst's casting in a video shared on Instagram by Fan Expo HQ. Judge praised Hurst for his love, respect, and appreciation for the character of Kratos, making him a fitting choice for the role. With Hurst's background as a gamer who has played God of War since its inception, Judge believes he will do justice to the character in the live-action adaptation.
Christopher Judge has lent his voice to Kratos in the 2018 God of War game and its upcoming sequel, God of War Ragnarök. He took over the role from Terrence C. Carson, who voiced Kratos in the original games. Interestingly, Ryan Hurst has already been involved in the God of War franchise, having portrayed Thor in Ragnarök. This familiarity with the series adds another layer of authenticity to his portrayal of Kratos in the TV adaptation.
The God of War series will center around the journey of Kratos and his son Atreus as they set out to fulfill the final wish of their wife and mother, Faye. Kratos aims to impart godly wisdom to his son, while Atreus seeks to teach his father about humanity. Joining Ryan Hurst in the cast is Teresa Palmer, who will play Phoebe/Sif, Thor's wife and the goddess of family, and Max Parker as Heimdall, the Watchman of Asgard and one of Odin's sons.
Initially announced over three years ago, the God of War TV series has seen changes in its development team. Showrunner Rafe Judkins and The Expanse creators Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby were initially involved but later stepped down. They were replaced by Ronald D. Moore, known for his work on the Star Trek franchise and the Battlestar Galactica reimagining. With a talented cast and experienced creators on board, the God of War TV series is shaping up to be an exciting adaptation for fans of the beloved video game franchise.
