Phil Collins Opens Up About Health Challenges and Retirement in Recent Interview

Phil Collins recently opened up about his health challenges in an interview on BBC’s Eras podcast. He shared that he has faced numerous health issues over the past few years, requiring a 24-hour live-in nurse to ensure he takes his medication properly. Collins revealed that he has undergone five knee surgeries, leaving him with only one functioning knee, which requires assistance for walking.

In addition to his knee problems, Collins mentioned that he contracted COVID-19 while in the hospital and experienced kidney issues, which he attributed to excessive drinking. However, he has since quit drinking and celebrated two years of sobriety. Despite the difficulties he has faced, Collins expressed that he is now in a better place and has come to terms with his health challenges.

Collins' health struggles began after a spinal injury in 2007, leading to his retirement from touring in 2022. In a documentary released in 2024, he discussed his decision to step back from music and focus on his health. Collins acknowledged that his days as a musician may be behind him, as he no longer feels the same passion for music and performance. Despite this, he remains optimistic about his future and is grateful for the support he has received during his health journey.
