Phil Collins Opens Up About Health Struggles and Musical Comeback

Phil Collins recently shared that he is currently receiving 24-hour care due to ongoing health issues. In a series of interviews on BBC Two's Eras, the acclaimed musician discussed his struggles with kidney problems and undergoing multiple knee surgeries. Collins mentioned that he has a live-in nurse to ensure he takes his medication properly and has faced various health challenges, including contracting COVID-19 while in the hospital. Despite these setbacks, he expressed gratitude for being able to walk with assistance after five knee operations.

Following a spinal injury in 2007, Collins has encountered health issues that have impacted his ability to perform. In 2017, he had to postpone a London show due to a fall caused by "drop foot," a condition resulting from surgery. During the Eras interview, Collins acknowledged that his past drinking habits contributed to his kidney issues and revealed that he has been sober for two years. He admitted to drinking excessively after tours but emphasized that he was never drunk, although he did experience a few falls.

Despite his health challenges, Collins hinted at a potential return to music, mentioning that he has unfinished or partially completed projects that he finds promising. He expressed optimism about the possibility of creating new music and hinted at a resurgence in his musical career. With a renewed focus on his health and sobriety, Collins seems determined to overcome his health obstacles and continue pursuing his passion for music.
