Reviving Healthcare Services at The Hollies: Progress and Plans in Hadleigh, Essex

Healthcare leaders are currently exploring options for the vacant surgery that closed in Hadleigh, Essex, leaving thousands of patients without a doctor. The Care Quality Commission (CQC) had issued an "urgent suspension" against the registration of the resident GP at The Hollies, Dr. Olusegun Olatokunbo Omosini. Efforts are being made to find a new operator for the site, with the landlord cooperating with local health leaders to facilitate this process.
During a meeting of Essex care boards, Beverley Flowers from the NHS Mid and South Essex Integrated Care System (ICS) mentioned the positive collaboration with the landlord in addressing the situation at The Hollies. Papers released before the meeting revealed that a legal dispute between the landlord and the building tenant had been resolved in favor of the landlord, requiring the tenant to vacate the premises by mid-March. The ICS is working with stakeholders to expedite this transition.
Dr. Omosini had previously received warnings from the CQC in July 2025 for issues related to managing medicines safely and governance systems. He was formally suspended by the watchdog on 30 October, leading to the closure of The Hollies. The surgery, which serves approximately 12,800 individuals, has been under the management of an interim leadership team since its closure, receiving recognition from local MP Rebecca Harris for their efforts in maintaining services for patients.
Patients affected by the closure have been offered appointments at alternative locations, as well as telehealth consultations. The ICS spokesperson emphasized their commitment to restoring services at The Hollies promptly and safely.
