Heated Rivalry Sparks Hockey Frenzy: NHL Ticket Sales Soar

The popular Canadian drama series "Heated Rivalry" on HBO Max has generated a surge of interest in ice hockey. The National Hockey League (NHL) has reported a significant increase in weekly ticket sales, with a rise of over 20% since the show's debut. This spike in demand has led to a boost in revenue for the NHL, with a growth of more than 30% compared to the previous year.
According to SeatGeek, a mobile ticketing platform, there has been a rise in both single-ticket sales and demand from first-time game attendees. The show has attracted more people to explore NHL games, resulting in a notable increase in ticket buyers experiencing a game for the first time. SeatGeek's marketing director, Chris Leyden, noted that "Heated Rivalry" has sparked a renewed interest in hockey and the NHL, reflected in the increased ticket searches and purchases on their platform.
StubHub also saw a surge in ticket searches, with a 75% increase and 5% of tickets purchased by first-time attendees. This level of interest has not been seen since 2023 when Taylor Swift attended a Chiefs' game. The series, based on Rachel Reid's "Game Changers" book series, centers on the romantic relationship between two male professional hockey players from rival teams. The show's stars, including Hudson Williams, Connor Storrie, and Francois Arnaud, have gained widespread popularity, fueling discussions among its predominantly female fanbase.
"Heated Rivalry" has dominated HBO Max's Top 10 chart for several weeks, showcasing its impact on viewership and engagement. While the show was eventually surpassed by the second season premiere of "The Pitt," it has left a lasting impression on fans and the hockey community. The series has not only entertained audiences but also reignited interest in the sport, driving ticket sales and revenue for the NHL.
