Join the Michigan Football Team: Walk-On Tryouts for 2026 Season
Are you a student at the University of Michigan and interested in joining the football team? The program is holding walk-on tryouts on Friday, Jan. 30, to recruit players for the 2026 team led by new head coach Kyle Whittingham. Only undergraduate and graduate students currently enrolled at the Ann Arbor campus are eligible to participate. To qualify, you must be in good academic standing, meet NCAA eligibility standards, and have graduated from high school within the last six years. If you meet these criteria, email [email protected] from your school-issued umich.edu email address before 12 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 27. Include a copy of your class transcripts and current class schedule to receive the necessary forms and medical paperwork for the tryouts.
The NCAA recently expanded the number of scholarships available for football teams from 85 to 105. Michigan intends to maximize its roster by filling as many of the 105 spots as possible, and the walk-on tryouts are part of this effort. Walk-on tryouts have been a common practice at Michigan, with former coach Jim Harbaugh also utilizing them to bolster the team. Players who make the team through walk-on tryouts typically contribute on scout teams and in reserve roles.
If you are a dedicated student at the University of Michigan with a passion for football, this is your opportunity to showcase your skills and potentially earn a spot on the team. Don't miss the chance to be a part of the Michigan football program and make your mark on the field. Get ready to take the first step towards your football dreams by participating in the upcoming walk-on tryouts.
