New York Rangers Reportedly Finalizing Trade Deal for Defenceman Carson Soucy with New York Islanders

The New York Rangers are reportedly finalizing a deal to trade defenceman Carson Soucy to the New York Islanders, according to a report from Vince Z. Mercogliano of The Athletic. Soucy is expected to be held out of the upcoming game against the Boston Bruins for asset protection. The 31-year-old defenceman has posted three goals and eight points in 46 games with the Rangers this season. Soucy, who stands at 6-foot-4 and shoots left, is in the final year of a three-year, $9.75 million contract with a $3.25 million cap hit and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

This potential trade involving Soucy would be the first move made by Rangers general manager Chris Drury since announcing a team retool earlier this month. The Rangers are currently at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings and are on track to miss the playoffs for the second consecutive year after winning the Presidents' Trophy in 2024. On the other hand, the Islanders are currently in third place in the Metropolitan Division as they aim to make a return to the playoffs for the third time in four years after missing out last season.

Originally drafted 137th overall by the Minnesota Wild in 2013, Soucy has accumulated 30 goals and 95 points in 411 career games playing for the Wild, Seattle Kraken, Vancouver Canucks, and Rangers. His most productive offensive season was in 2021-22 when he notched 10 goals and 21 points in 64 games with the Kraken while averaging 17:40 of ice time.

Stay tuned for more updates on this developing trade involving Carson Soucy.
