Netflix has secured the distribution rights for Legendary's live-action adaptation of Gundam, with Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo set to star in the film directed by Jim Mickle. The project, co-developed by Legendary and Bandai Namco Filmworks, will be Mickle's own script and marks the first live-action entry into the Gundam universe. The plot details are currently undisclosed, but Gundam is a renowned anime series that revolves around giant fighting robots in a futuristic setting where humanity has colonized space. The franchise, created by Yoshiyuki Tomino, has spawned numerous animated series and movies, as well as a successful merchandising arm generating $600 million annually. Legendary Entertainment initially announced the Gundam film in collaboration with Netflix in 2021, with Jordan Vogt-Roberts attached to direct, but the streamer and Vogt-Roberts are no longer involved in the project.
