Seattle Sounders and Providence Announce Early Termination of Front-of-Shirt Sponsorship Agreement

The Seattle Sounders have announced the early termination of their front-of-shirt sponsorship agreement with Providence, ending in 2027 instead of the original 10-year term. The agreement, signed in 2023, included naming rights to the Sounders’ training facility, which will remain as the Providence Swedish Performance Center & Clubhouse until 2033. The financial details of the continued partnership between Providence and the Sounders are yet to be disclosed, but it is expected to be at least $10 million after the shirt sponsorship ends.
Sounders President of Business Operations, Hugh Webber, expressed gratitude for Providence's leadership and the impact they have had on the community. The decision to end the sponsorship agreement is seen as a strategic move for both organizations to focus on their core priorities while maintaining the strength of their partnership. Despite initial criticism from fans when the partnership was announced, the news of the early termination is likely to be well-received from various perspectives.
Providence's decision to exit the sports sponsorship business, as communicated to employees nine months ago, played a significant role in the termination of the agreement with the Sounders. The Sounders will now have a two-year window to secure a new front-of-shirt sponsor, coinciding with the switch to the summer-spring MLS calendar in 2027-28. The collaboration between Providence and the Sounders will continue to extend beyond the sponsorship agreement, focusing on player health and community initiatives.
