Sex Criminals: Prime Video's New Series Based on the Popular Image Comics Title

Prime Video has greenlit a new series called Sex Criminals, based on the popular Image Comics title by Matt Fraction and Chip Zdarsky. The show will consist of eight episodes and is co-created by Kumail Nanjiani, Emily V. Gordon, and Tze Chun. Nanjiani will also have an acting role in the series. Sex Criminals follows Suze, a girl with a unique ability to stop time when she has sex. When she meets Jon, who shares the same gift, they decide to use their powers to rob banks.

Winter Coat Films, led by Nanjiani and Gordon, will executive produce the show along with Tze Chun, Dani Melia, Dani Gorin, Matt Fraction, and Chip Zdarsky. The series will focus on unconventional love stories, a theme that resonates with the creators. Tze Chun expressed his excitement about bringing Sex Criminals to life, a project he has been passionate about for over a decade. The show promises to deliver a fresh and emotionally grounded take on the original comic.

Sex Criminals, which debuted in 2013, received critical acclaim and garnered two Eisner Award nominations. The adaptation of the comic was previously in development at Universal Television but did not progress. Peter Friedlander, global head of television at Amazon MGM Studios, praised the series for its bold, hilarious, and original storytelling with a compelling love story at its core. The collaboration between the creators and production partners aims to bring this unique world and its characters to a global audience on Prime Video.
