Rik Emmett Returns: Triumph's Iconic Singer and Guitarist Talks About His Comeback Tour

Rik Emmett, the iconic singer and guitarist of Triumph, recently discussed his decision to return to the stage for a North American tour after a 30-year break. He shared that his wife, Jeanette, helped him weigh the pros and cons of the tour, but they quickly realized that getting back in shape was a compelling reason to hit the road again. With the upcoming 50th-anniversary Rock & Roll Machine Reloaded Tour in April, Emmett will reunite with his original bandmates Gil Moore and Mike Levine, along with guitarist Phil X, bassist Todd Kerns, and drummer Brent Fitz.
Emmett expressed his excitement about the tour rehearsals, emphasizing the joy and fun that comes with performing live. He also humorously speculated that Rush, another Canadian rock band embarking on a tour, might be receiving similar encouragement from their spouses to stay active and healthy. For Emmett, the tour has disrupted his retired lifestyle, motivating him to stay active and engaged in music.
Reflecting on the unexpected resurgence of Triumph's songs like "Lay It on the Line," Emmett admitted that he initially thought he had retired for good. However, the renewed interest in the band's music prompted him to reconsider and embrace the opportunity to perform again. With guitarist Phil X joining the lineup, Emmett acknowledged that various factors, including the band's history and the presence of new members, influenced his decision to embark on the tour.
The Rock & Roll Machine Reloaded tour is set to kick off on April 22 in Sault Ste. Marie, ON, and will conclude on June 6 in Boston, MA. Fans can look forward to experiencing the timeless music of Triumph as they hit the stage once again, showcasing their enduring passion for rock and roll.
