Tragic Loss at Sea: Update on Gloucester Fishing Vessel Sinking

The U.S. Coast Guard has identified the seven individuals who were on board the Gloucester fishing vessel that sank. Six crew members are presumed deceased, with one body recovered. The search area spans four miles off the coast of Cape Ann, with water depths of up to 400 feet. The crew members were identified as Accursio “Gus” Sanfilippo, Paul Beal Sr., Paul Beal Jr., John Rousanidis, Freeman Short, Sean Therrien, and Jada Samitt, a NOAA fisheries observer. The National Transportation Safety Board will assist in the investigation to determine the cause of the incident. The purpose of the investigation is to improve safety at sea, not assign blame. Updates on the investigation will be provided as it progresses.
